A day well spent in photography

A day well spent in photography

Before the much-anticipated class on smartphone photography, I had scarce knowledge about smartphone photography. Earlier I had the habit of taking photos through my phone just for the sake of taking photos, but now I have a deep understanding on smartphone photography and how to take clear if not aesthetic photos through the much looked down phone camera.

Many of whom have seen my quite recent photos would think that I have been in this game for rather a while would be dumbfounded to learn that I only started only but two weeks ago. The course was went through thoroughly without much surprise by the talented Jotham Njoroge. He started by stressing the importance of smartphone photography which is a storytelling tool that we carry with us everywhere.

The course was summarized into 3 main objectives

1. Think. Like an artist

2. Capture. Rules of composition

3. Create. Improving light, enhancing colour

THINK CAPTURE CREATE.

In order to begin, one ought to think like an artist literally. One of Pablo Picasso’s famous quotes states that “If I don’t have red, I use blue” You can always find beauty in the ugliest things.

In Capturing, there some rules one ought to observe for example: the rule of thirds, Triangular arrangement, GETTING CLOSE! Which is the most important rule of all.

After going through the basics, we had a fun filled opportunity to go take some photos and edit them ourselves using the famous “snapseed” application.

Hodari was begun back in 1971 by a group of Nairobi parents who were interested in seeing their sons use their free time after school, on weekends and in the holidays more constructively.
